Compatability issue

I have a workbook created in Excel 2003. I have opened this file in 2007. I
have saved it a with a .xlsm extension,

A formula in say A1 is =IF(B1="Y",2,1). It always equates to 2 even when B1
is blank. The function argument says B1="Y" is true even thou B1is blank.

Now if you create a new worksheet in this same workbook and copy the A1
formula to A1 on the new sheet it equate correctly.

If you save the file in 07 to the compatible with 97 -03 the original
formula equates correctly

OldJay,

What is your calculation mode set to? If you are in a manual calculation
mode, then press F9 to recalculate the worksheet.
