VBA compatability
 

Hi
I would appreciate any practical advice.....
I've never changed o/s before and I'm considering buying Windows 7 Pro 64
bit but besides all the usual compatability problems I've read about with any
brand new o/s I'm not able to determine whether:
1. vba apps written in Excel 2003 and WinXP Home 32 bit will run on any 64
bit system - either WinXP Pro or Win7 Pro
2. I can expect them to run natively in Win7 or if they can only run using
XP Mode.

Has anyone any practical experience?

I do that routinely and have seen no problems. I have Win 7 64-bit Home
Premium and most of my files (I use VBA a lot) are Win XP with Excel 2002

Just to be absolutely clear ........ you do not have to use XPMode? ........
they run natively in Win7?

Surely it's the application, ie Excel, version that matters not the OS
or processor.

Lots of articles refer non-specifically to 'old XP applications'.

But when I see articles like this....

..... discussing Office 2003 I have to be concerned. It seems that running
in XP Mode results in a drop off in performance. XPM seems great for
compatability but why would I want to run my apps slower?

It may be a lot of o/s changers are like me and want to also take the
opportunity to upgrade hardware as well. Again, if 2003 apps must run in XP
Mode why would I want to take the 'shine' off a faster chip by running in
that virtual mode?
