Vlookup against a different spreadsheet.
I tried to use Vlookup in a spreadsheet to extract data from a different
spreadsheet in the workbook. It complained about having the spreadsheet name in the table array. It worked fine if I put the vlookup commands in the same spreadheet. So the questions is can you use vlookup to lookup data in a different spreadsheet (same workbook) and if so what is the syntax? Don C |

Yes you can use VLOOKUP on another worksheet in a workbook.
In Sheet1 B1 =VLOOKUP(A1,Sheet2!$A$1:$B$10,2,FALSE) =VLOOKUP(A1,table,2,FALSE) Assumes table is a defined name in Sheet2 Gord Dibben MS Excel MVP On Wed, 11 Nov 2009 00:20:47 -0000, "Don C" wrote: I tried to use Vlookup in a spreadsheet to extract data from a different spreadsheet in the workbook. You can use VLOOKUP in the same workbook or you can use VLOOKUP from another spreadsheet file. Here is the syntax from another filename: =VLOOKUP(A2,'C:\Documents and Settings\JTK\My Documents\Excel\Training\[Filename.xlsx]Sheet1'!$A$1:$B$8,2,FALSE) HTH, DataHog Don C;554451 Wrote: I tried to use Vlookup in a spreadsheet to extract data from a different spreadsheet in the workbook. Vlookup against a different spreadsheet.
Hi Gord
This was how I was expecting it to work. Interestingly when I created the table array details by marking the area, it complained that there were too many parameters. When I typed it in manually it was fine ! Don C "Gord Dibben" <gorddibbATshawDOTca wrote in message ... Yes you can use VLOOKUP on another worksheet in a workbook.
