General approach/platform question
 

My department is currently using an Excel file with VBA with an intranet link
to collect work requests from our customers (internal to the company). The
file sends us email when the requestor fills in their info and clicks a
button. But with the Office 2007 changes to how security features work, it
has become confusing to users when they don't realize they need to enable the
content. We would like to move to a more truly web-based submission form,
and I'm not sure what's the best way to accomplish this. I've seen a little
bit of InfoPath that makes it look like a possibility, and I also have the
impression VB.Net might be a good option. But I'd like to get some input and
suggestions if y'all are willing.

Ideally, the solution would not require purchase of any new software, though
that would not be a showstopper. I will be the sole creator, and come with
pretty decent VBA skills (mostly Excel), but no other formal programming
background. However I do pick things up fairly quickly (and enjoy taking up
something new). Any hints as to the best way to approach this task
(including advantages and drawbacks would be helpful too) will be MOST
welcome! Thanks in advance!

Depending on your IT environment, add Outlook forms to your list of options
to consider. I don't have the support of IT to use them at my company, but
from reading about them, they seem a great solution because they are
integrated right into Outlook.

There are books on outlook forms, and you might also scan/lurk in the
outlook programming-VBA and programming-forms newsgroups.
