Default insert on date

So once a month, say on the 13th of the month, we want a new value entered.

In that case, consider using a small VLOOKUP() table

Say in J1 thru K16 we have the table of dates vs values:

1/13/2009 1
2/13/2009 2
3/13/2009 3
4/13/2009 4
5/13/2009 5
6/13/2009 6
7/13/2009 7
8/13/2009 8
9/13/2009 9
10/13/2009 10
11/13/2009 11
12/13/2009 12
1/13/2010 13
2/13/2010 14
3/13/2010 15
4/13/2010 16

In the desired cell enter:
=VLOOKUP(TODAY(),$J$1:$K$16,2)

Say we want the number 123 entered in cell B9 on 12/25/2009

In B9 enter:

=IF(TODAY()=DATEVALUE("12/25/2009"),123,"")

is it possible to have excel 2000 enter a set amount into a cell on a set
date. I have never attemped to do this as yet. I have a sheet and can reserve
a cell for input. This is a balance sheet so amount entered would be part of
the sum of the column. Am aware that sometimes copied amount don't sum.
I am relucant to have this done by user off a menu as people do forget.
Hope I have not muddied the waters to much.
Thanks.
