Check if the value of one cell can be found in a number of other c
I am trying to compare a register of members with member-IDs to a list of
members who would like to close their membership but I haven't found a good way to compare the value of one cell with the value of several cells (a column) thereby checking if any value from cell A1 can be found in any of cells B1 to B100 and the same for A2, A3 and so fourth. Any suggestions? |

Use Conditional Formatting.
Click on A1 and: Format Conditional Formatting... . Formula is =COUNTIF($B$1:$B$100,A1)0 then pick a nice color Finally copy A1 and paste/special/formats down the remainder of the column. -- Gary''s Student - gsnu200811 "James T Kirk" wrote: I am trying to compare a register of members with member-IDs to a list of members who would like to close their membership but I haven't found a good way to compare the value of one cell with the value of several cells (a column) thereby checking if any value from cell A1 can be found in any of cells B1 to B100 and the same for A2, A3 and so fourth. Hi
Look at the help for VLookup =vlookup(A1, "$C$1:$E$300", 3, false) will search the first column in "$C$1:$E$300" for the value in cell A1. If it finds it, it will return the contents of the corresponding column 3 entry. If A1 is not found you get an #N/A error. The false bit means that "$C$1:$E$300" is not sorted. regards Paul On Nov 5, 12:42*pm, James T Kirk <James T wrote: I am trying to compare a register of members with member-IDs to a list of members who would like to close their membership but I haven't found a good way to compare the value of one cell with the value of several cells (a column) thereby checking if any value from cell A1 can be found in any of cells B1 to B100 and the same for A2, A3 and so fourth.
