Recording Excel98 Macros
 

Hi all,

I am trying to refine some of my old Excel98 (*Macintosh*) Macros. What I am
trying to accomplish while I am running Excel98 through Classic in OS/X 10.4.
11, is to record the macro so that the code gets written in a spreadsheet
using the (sorry, I don't know the name of the dialect) Macro language that
gets written in a spreadsheet.

Please advise. I'm going bald pulling my hair out!

The code is likely VBA (Visual Basic for Applications, recorded into a
module) or more likely XLM (Excel 4 Macro Programming Language, recorded
into a macro sheet).

If you provide more details about what you have tried and what has happened
or not happened, someone may be able to provide assistance.

Thank you. Yes. Okay, here it goes:

1--Open Excel 98
2--I then open my spreadsheet which contains three tabs: the spreadsheet
itself, a chart and the sheet containing the various macros needed to
calculate and chart the data
3--Next, I select the Macro sheet, click in an open cell in the first row and
then
4--I select "Tools" then "Macro" then "Record New Macro...".
5--I give it a name and a shortcut key and click "OK"
6--Next, I record some commands to modify my chart by adding more series and
then customise the line andd pattern.

7--I then stop the recorder.

It is after this, there is no code written on the spreadsheet but rather I
locate this code in the VBA window. Rather, I am trying to code my macros
through the spreadsheet on a dedicated Macro worksheet.

Does this help to clarify my inquiry?

On the Windows versions of Excel, Excel 95 was the last version to have an
option to record Excel 4 XLM macros. In Excel 95, when you choose Record New
Macro, there is an Options button to expand the Record New Macro dialog box,
and you can select the Language as either Visual Basic or MS Excel 4.0
Macro.

Windows Excel 97 does not have an option to record Excel 4 XLM macros, so it
is unlikely that Mac Excel 98 has it.

If you don't see such an option in Mac Excel 98, then you cannot record an
Excel 4 XLM macro. However, you can still edit and run existing macros.
