Inserting some sort of sorting tag that doesn't display as text

Hello!

I was wondering if it was at all possible to insert some sort of sorting
mechanism that wouldn't display as text but would still sort properly. I'm
making a spreadsheet of events for various organizations, and I would like to
have the option to sort the spreadsheet by the type of organization, but I
don't want to create an additional column on my spreadsheet. Is there any way
I could insert some sort of tag or something for each organization so excel
knows these are all the transportation-related organizations, these are all
the environmental organizations, and so forth, and then I can sort the
spreadsheet by these tags? Thank you!

I forgot to say that I'm using Excel 2003. Thank you!

You need to have a helper column. You can hide that column but otherwise
there is no easy way to do what you have asked...
