forms toolbar greyed out
 

I have Excel 2003. I am trying to create a command button on a screen. I
select ViewToolbarsForm and the toolbar appears but is greyed out. It
won't allow me to left click the command button on the toolbar and create it
on the screen.

I can open a new notebook and create the command button there but not on the
existing notebook. I have tried to copy a command button from the new
notebook to the existing notebook and receive a pop up stating "Microsoft
Excel cannot paste the data".

The other toolbars are available and not greyed out.

Any suggestions?

Is the worksheet protected?
Have you grouped multiple sheets?
Is the workbook shared?

Hi Dave,

I checked ToolsProtection and it gives me the option to "Protect Sheet" but
currently the sheet is not protected. The sheets are not grouped (no "GROUP"
word in the title bar) and the workbook is not shared (at least not by other
computers).

Am I missing something? Where do I look next?

Tools|Options|View Tab|check Show all in the Objects section.

(I'm out of guesses--hope it works.)

I have the same problem... But mine shows the "Group" at the title bar.
What does that mean? What do I need to do to create a command button?

[Group]
in the title bar means that you have multiple sheets selected.

Rightclick on one of the selected sheet tabs and choose "Ungroup sheets".

Then try using the controls again.

And to create a commandbutton, you have to use the control toolbox toolbar.

The commandbutton on the control toolbox toolbar is different from the button on
the Forms toolbar.
