How do I write a macro that as an item is typed in a list of possible matchs
pop down and one can be selected?

What about using a ComboBox instead. You get some auto-completion feedback
while typing and can quick traverse the list, one item at a time, by using
the up/down arrow keys without ever showing its drop-down list.
