Need macros in file to be available, but don't want file to open
 

Hello,

I have an excel file holding a number of macros that I would like to
be able to access whenever excel is open. I have saved this file at C:
\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\xlstart. Now, when I open
excel, this file opens. However, I don't want the file to open, I just
want the macros in the file to be available.

What you are looking for is an add-in.

open your file, go to "save as..." and
choose .xla as file format. excel should
change the destination by itself and you
can save it directly there. close the
whole excel, open a new blank one and
go to "Tools" -- "add-ins" and you should
see your file in the list.

Hi,
If you mean that what is bothering you is that you can see the file as a
regular xl book when xl opens, then you can actually set the IsAddin property
to True in the Properties window (vba editor). From now on, when excel opens,
it still opens the file from xlStart but the file is not displayed anymore
(only accessible in the vba editor).

Hide the file and save it so's it opens hidden.

Your macros will still be available.
