Internet connection check via vba?

Hi Guys,

Is it possible to check whether my internet connection is still active via
an excel vba routine?

What I have is a piece of software that reads share prices through the day
while I'm out and records them via excel. The software and excel are
different entities but the guy who wrote the software has a link facility
to send data to excel.

Lately I've found that the software is either crashing or merely freezing
at random points through the day. I'm suspecting that my adsl router is
the problem as it's had a few bad episodes lately, but I want to be sure
it's the router before I replace it and not a problem that is inherent with
the querying software. The software was written for me personally so isn't
something widely available.

What I want to do is have excel excel fire an onTime request say every
minute through the day and record its results with a timestamp. I'm
skilled enough to write a bit of code that queries a couple of web pages
somewhere and records whether the connection was made ok. However is there
a way that I can simply check whether the connection is 'live'?

Thanks guys,

Ron
