How to disable cell entry ?

Hi,
Is it possibe to disable entry with text or nummers in a range of cells,
but allow changing cell color in an unlocked cell ?
Can it be done with a macro?

hi,

go to tools- protection and protect your sheet.
in protection dialogue box check the FORMAT CELLS option.

How to disable cell entry ?

Hi naweed,
Thanks for your response.
In Protect sheet I have all unchecked except FORMAT CELLS and SELECT
UNLOCKED CELLS.
I want SELECT UNLOCKED CELLS checked to be abble to change range color, but
then you also can change the cell entry.
Regards, Hans

How to disable cell entry ?

This is not my experience.
I use Format | Format Cells opened Protection tab and unlocked all cells,
then locked F1:F10
Then in Tools | Protection, I protected the sheet with these boxed checked:
Protect Worksheet...., Select locked, Select unlocked, and Format Cells
Now I cannot change any value in F1:F10 but I can format including changing
colour.
I am using XL2003 for this experiment
best wishes
