How do I get Excel to give me a warning, if a given cell contains a given number?
 

I have a column (U2:U52) that contains numbers which are either "1"s
or "2"s. If they are "1"s, then I want Excel to do nothing; however,
if there is a "2" in the cell, then I want Excel to give me an audio
warning, as well as to display a warning message. I assume that I
would use the Data Validation for this. I have gone through the
following process, but cannot get Excel to respond:

a. Highlight the cell
b. Go to "Data" menu
c. Choose "Validation"
d. Choose "Settings Tab"
e. In the "Allow" box, choose "Whole Number"
f. In the "Data" box, choose "Not Equal To"
g. In the "Value" box, type "2"
h. Choose the "Error Alert" Tab
i. In the "Title" box, type "Maximum Hours"
j. In the "Error Message" box, type "Too many hours!"


The "1"s and the "2"s are already existing in the column's cells; I am
not typing them in/manually entering the data. I have discovered
that, if I use the above-listed set of steps, and then manually enter
the data, Excel gives me the response/warning that I want. Isn't
there a way to get Excel to give me the warning, based on data that
already exists in the cells of that column? Is Data Validation not
the right choice or what? Any help would be much appreciated.

Copy and paste doesn't work; tried that...unless I misunderstood what
you meant. I was looking for something that would use Excel as it was
meant to be used, without having to copy and paste things, in order to
see the results of a column. Thank you for your suggestion, anyway.
