Can anyone assist me with some code for Excel 2003 which without any other
program intervention prints a worksheet from Excel to PDF?

Does changing printer count as intervention?

If no, then you may want to try www.primopdf.com

It installs as another printer.

If you are familiar with ActiveX components, the ultimate solution
will be to use OGDIPICTURE. It is an excellent components full of
capabilities including creating PDF without printers stuff

Adobe Acrobat will do it.

But I know that from a co-worker, not from personal experience.

I don't know if Acrobat installs some Reference libraries so you can
save to PDF from within VBA though.
