Default "Available Resources" Error

I have a very large WB containing over 200 WS, broken basically into 4 sets
of 50. When I try to populate a couple of columns in one of these sets using
a macro to copy the data from its companion WS in another set, it runs out of
steam with this message ""Excel cannot complete this task with available
resources. Choose less data or close other applications."

In the first set I can get to about WS 23, other sets won't let me get
beyond WS2 of their set.

I understand the message, and what it's asking me to do. However I am not
sure which resources are falling short. Am I going to have to break this down
to several WBs, or is it a RAM shortage on the machine -- or what? No idea
what I should be looking for.

FWIW the data I am copying from WS to WS is typically two columns of about
8,000 rows each.
