Gathering data - individual points for a single topic

Hers the difficult to explain problem.... I have several bits of information, lets call them case studies. The identifying number of the case study is listed in column A. Users are required to record results for the case studies. For each case study there are a variable number of results., ie case study one could have 5 results, case study two 3 results etc. Case studies results are required to recorded on a line by line basis, So results of case study one would be listed on lines 1 to 5, and case study two, lines 6 to 9 etc WITHOUT having to manually duplicate the case study number next to each line, (because users tend only to enter the number of the case study once, ie they dont duplicate it on each line) is there an easier way of grouping the case study findings together. I cant write a formulae to reference the case study number to the line above, as that wont pick up when the case study number changes. Appreciate any thoughts or references on this topic!
