While doing a lot of data manipulation
and additions, linking to Access and so on I've noticed the size of the .xls file has almost doubled - compared to a backup which is almost identical. Is there a means to compact, or otherwise get rid of any excess? Thanks - Kirk |

This solution decreased the size of a file from 800 KB to 424 KB <a href =http://www.contextures.com/xlfaqApp.html#Unusedsolution</a http://www.contextures.com/xlfaqApp.html#Unused |

Moreover at the end it says: "...Note: In older versions of Excel, you
may have to Save, then close and re-open the file before the used range is reset. " I'm using Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 and it seems to be on the older versions :) - you need to close and reopen the file to see the used range to be resetted. Tell me if it helped. |

Hi Morris,
It helped tremendously ! It took my xls from 17,869 to 8,966 !! I couldn't use the code method as I have some merged cells. Also closed and re-opened. There's a heap of handy stuff on that page. Many thanks.
