Default Excel "Available Resources" Error - Repost With More Info

Hello all.

I have been having a recurring problem in Excel that defies any explanation.
It started on Monday, in an Excel workbook that has been working without
errors for MONTHS. In fact, Monday morning it worked OK, but then on Monday
afternoon I got the following error message in Excel: "Excel cannot complete
this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other
applications."

The workbook in question contains links to two other workbooks, as well as
some VBA code. I get the above error at very strange times when my code runs
- for instance, it only seems to happen if I'm copying a worksheet from one
book to another, or right before I close one of the two linked workbooks.

I'm using Excel 2003 on Windows XP Pro, and I've got 512 MB of RAM with 765
MB of virtual memory.

I added the function =INFO("memused") to my workbook, and check its value
periodically throughout the code to see when it is at its highest. To the
best of my determination, it never goes beyond 15,524,084 bytes, which is
about 14.8MB. According to what I've read, this should be far, far smaller
than the maximum amount of memory Excel can make use of.

None of the worksheets I have use Pivot Tables, graphs, or charts. It is not
a shared workbook. I -do- have links between the workbooks, and there's
absolutely no way I can get around that. But like I said, this has worked
fine for long before I started at this job, which was January.

I'm almost certain that I'm getting the error incorrectly, but does anyone
know of any bugs curently being worked on to explain this problem?
