Default Manipulate Excel file via scheduled task?

I have an Excel workbook Events.xls wherein Worksheet1 contains simple
columns and rows of events past and well into the future.

Every day, an outside application will hit the file to read in only the
events for the current day. My thought is to have Worksheet2 contain the
filtered data.

So I guess now I need a scheduled task that opens the file, runs some sort
of querty to get the seubset data into Worksheet2, saves the file and closes
it.

Can anybody get me started? Does anyone have a better way of doing this?

Thanks,
Ron
