countif problem when using range name

Hello All
I have a number say 6 in cell A3 which is named as 'MP01'; in another
cell i have a formula =countif(D1:D10,"MP01") but this does not work!
However if i have =countif(D1:D10,MP01+2) then this works.
Many thks for your help
