Active X component can't create object error

I am using Excel 2003. This particualr VBA file I am running I have run many
times. It has been about 2 months since I have run it though and I do not
recall making any changes to my settings, but maybe you guys can help.

When you open the excel file, it opens a database in the background that is
not visible. However, when I open the excel file I get an active X component
can't create object error. when I open up the VBA tool, it stops where the
program is trying to open up the databse. I looked at my references that are
checked and none of them appear to be missing.

I realize that this is very vague, but hopfully someone can give me some
suggestions to look for.

Thanks.
