How to create a macro for this?

I created a SQL script, that eventually spools an Excel file.

This spool file is the source file for a total report (destinatio
file) in Excel. I already tried to work with links between the sourc
file and the destination file, but when I than open the destinatio
file, it can only updates the values if I also open the source file
This is not what I want. I would like the destination file t
automatically updates its value automatically wihtout having to ope
the source file. Can I record a marco to do this? If so, can anyon
explain how

If the link is properly established, it should update. Since what you ask
is normal behavior if you have the proper settings and proper links, there
wouldn't be any special action which you would need to take or which you
could take.

Tom,

If it would work, I wouldn't post...

So, it doesn't work. The problem is - I think - that although it looks
like my sql script exports an .xls file, Excel sees and recognizes it
as an .xls file as soon as I open it in Excel. So, I can only update my
destination file after I open my .xls source file in Excel. And for this
last part, I would like to record a macro.
