Learning VB6 or VB2005?
 

Hello -

I'm going to learn how to use VB.

I have 2 questions:
1) Should I learn VB2005 or VB6? How much of a difference is there? I have
VB6.3 installed, but I don't want to learn old technology. Your
recommendations please.

2) Can you list a few good books for this task? One book that gives lots of
examples, one that is simple and maybe one that makes a good reference.

This is how I will be spending my vacation - at BNs.

There is a tremendous difference between VB.NET and VB6. Many
quite rightfully argue that VB.NET is a completely different
language that is syntactically similar to VB6.

Which to learn depends on what you intend to do with the language
once you learn it. VB6 is alive and well, and will continue to be
popular considering the tens of millions of lines of code that
are out in the world.

Thank you for your insite Chip.

I am thinking - if I'm going to spend time learning something, what will be
most marketable? Spend my time on that.

But, it seems that if I learn VB6, I can "convert" later.

Any good books to recommend - I see a bunch out there - don't know which are
well written.

Learning VB6 or VB2005?
 

In the UK you'll find that VB.NET is more marketable / better paid than VB6,
but if it's money you want then learn C# - a lot of contracts are out there
for C# developers on good money.
