Relationship between CHR alt Alt-XXX on the numeric keypad
I was wondering if anybody could clear up a little problem for me?
I've been trying to produce some tables of all the extended characters avaulable in any given typeface. I've created a table with two columns, the left column formatted in WindDings (although it could be any font), the right in Arial. I uses this code to populate it: Sub ControlChars() Dim ControlCount As Integer Range("J1").Select For ControlCount = 1 To 255 Selection.Value = Chr(ControlCount) Selection.Offset(0, 1).Value = "CHR(" & ControlCount & ")" Selection.Offset(1, 0).Select Next End Sub This works fine, but, when I also know that I can use ALT+XXX (with the numeric keypad on) to enter extended characters, too. Using 24 as an example, my generated table f shows, for CHR(24) an upward pointing arrow. If I type in Alt-024. i get an upward pointing arrow. If, however, I type Alt-24 (without the zero), I get a black circle with a "6" in it! Can anyone explain the relationship (if there is one) between CHR, ALT+numbers preceded by a zero and ALT+numbers without a zero? I realise this is more of a Windows thing, than an Excel thing, but if anyone can help, I'd be very grateful. Regards Pete |
