"Cannot Change Part of a Merged Cell" When updating link using mac
 

I am trying to update links in an excel sheet that has links to other
workbooks, using a macro. I am getting an error messge Error 1004:"Cannot
Change Part of a Merged Cell". But, if the link is updated manually using
EditLinks this works fine. I am using office xp.

Hello Madhava,

When referencing merge cells, you must refer to the Leftmost or Upper
Left Cell of the range. Referencing any other cell in the merged range
will give you this error.

EXAMPLE:
Range("A1:J1") is merged.

Range("A1").Value = "This is a test."
This works.

Range("B1").Value = "This is a test."

This will generate the error eventhough cell "B1" is a part of the
Range("A1:J1").
This happens because the system references the merged range only by the
Leftmost ot Upper Left cell in the range.

Check your code and formulas that address merged cells and be sure they
are addressing the range correctly.
