Password prompt add-in exit NOT Google Desktop

I have one user of a widely used add-in of mine reporting that Excel pops up
an add-in password dialog on exit that is hard to get rid of.

This user is not using Google Desktop, so this is not the cause.

MSDN suggests problems with unrealeased references in dlls in KB280454 but I
cannot see how this can be happening. There are dlls in play - e.g. the
common controls - but none are being passed a reference to Excel and there
is no scope for referential circularity.

Looking through the archives I have seen a few other references to this
problem without Google installed, but no solution posted.

Has anyone solved this or does anyone have suggestions as to the cause.

Thanks,

Robin Hammond

Carrying on with this:

Bob Flanagan posted this in August but never got a reply:

" It appears that Act! software is causing a password prompt for Excel
add-ins. This is very similar to the Google desktop search problem. Has
anybody also seen this as a problem with Act!, and more importantly, has
anyone got a fix for it? "

I've found out that the machine where the password problem is occuring has
Act! installed as a com add-in.

So to paraphrase Bob: Has anyone come across this or found a solution?

Thanks,

Password prompt add-in exit NOT Google Desktop

Hi Robin,

See:
http://tinyurl.com/aa7zy

In this thread, Jeff Robinson reports poblems associated with the use of the
Act! addin.

A Google Desktop type solution was proposed to Jeff and, given his apparent
silence following his stated intention to implement and reboot, it is at
least possible that this worked for him.

I do not use Act! or Google Desktop and have not experienced these problems
at first hand.

Norman

Password prompt add-in exit NOT Google Desktop

Norman et al,

I suspect that the changing the registry setting to reconfigure
loadbehaviour to "on demand" from "always" as suggested might stop the
password prompt, but my user understandably says that he has Act! running
all day so the workaround will not work for him.

Does anyone else have ideas.

Or, having spent some time trawling around the Peachtree site looking for a
support option, would anyone who has a support plan with Act be prepared to
raise this with them?

I'm also posting in the managed MCP excel support groups but not getting
much help there at the moment.

Thanks for the help and ideas,

Robin Hammond
