Search & Extraction of Cells in a Workbook without opening it?

Hello -

I currently have some macro code that opens multiple Excel Workbooks
and searches for certain values in cells. I use something like
Set lWorkbook = Workbooks.Open("X.xls")
to get access to the file.

What I was wondering is whether there is a way of doing that more
"silently" without the workbook window pop up every time a file is
opened. Is there any way to open an *.xls file and search through a
worksheet? Currently it locks up my computer when I run it and any
inadvertent key stroke might interfer with the macro running.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,

Try:

Application.ScreenUpdating = False

Set lWorkbook = Workbooks.Open("X.xls")
'Your processing code

Application.ScreenUpdating = True
