I don't know how to update the Excel 97 program to Excel 2000 progam. Can I
have some suggestions?

Buy a copy of Excel 2000 and install it. Tell it to replace any existing
copies of Excel.

You can't upgrade an existing version of xl97 to a more recent version
unless you purchase the more recent version.
