Default Setting up a series hierarcy with a pivot table

I am working on a large database that I am representing graphically and would
like to be able to use the series buttons in a hierarchical arrangement. In
other words, create an independent button that would then dictate the
available selections in the dependent button(s) below, ideally with multiple
independent/dependent combinations. Is this even possible to do with the
pivot table and chart, or do I need to set this up as another database and
chart function with lookup and index functions and using other ActiveX
controls?
