Subtotals
Greetings all,
I am having trouble removing subtotals from spreadsheets. Regardless of how many or how few line items and/or groups, Excel all but shuts down when I try to remove subtotals. Any help? Thanks, BMercer |
Subtotals
How many lines of data are you dealing with? Over about 10,000 and you are in
for a wait. Subtotaling is very slow (Data - SubTotal). Your system will appear to get stuck when removing (or adding). In your task amanager it will show not responding, but your CPU usage will be at the max. Go grab a coffee and wait. A better solution to that many lines of data is a pivot table which is incredibly much faster. -- HTH... Subtotals
Thanks for the help, Jim. The worksheet typically runs an average of 800-900
lines, which is why I didn't think it should "freeze up" and suck up all the resources to perform the task. It is extremely quick adding in subtotals, but removing them is the big slow down. I'll try a pivot table, but since the data is volatile, I am not sure what the best approach will be. I'll just have to pick a guinea pig and experiment a little. Again, thanks for the help.
