Exel VBA

In Exel 2000 I wrote some VBA and went into the "VBA Property" and password
protected the code.

Some Excel 97 users are using my program. It has worked good in the past
but they are now getting an error (who knows why). I opened Exel 97 and went
to VBA and right clicked on the project but it wouldn't give me the option to
enter the code and unlock it. Why? How can I unlock the project in Excel
97?

You can't (been there, done that).
2k's encryption is "beefier" than '97 so you can't go back.
Open it in 2k and remove the password.
