If you want to learn VBA for excel, I'd start with excel's VBA.
I don't know VB, but I figure that there's enough unique stuff in excel's object module that it's better to learn right in excel. If you want to learn VB later, then you'll have a pretty good leg up. Debra Dalgleish has a big list of books for excel at: http://www.contextures.com/xlbooks.html John Walkenbach's is a nice one to start with. I think that John Green (and others) is nice, too (for a second book??).
