Permission to use object denied

One machine in my office runs Excel97 under Windows XP.
When I try to open a particular workbook I get this dialog box:
MS Visual Basic
Permission to use object denied
This happens whether I open from a floppy or from the file copied onto the
desktop. The same file and floppy work on other computers.

Found a related thread here with a response from Tom Ogilvy who suggested
* removing any files in the xlStart directory (except for personal.xls)
-- Did this. No change.
* go into Tools=Addins, and uncheck any non-standard addin.
-- new workbook.
-- opened Tools/AddIns and immediately get "permission to remove object
denied " message, along with "Opening FUNCRES" message in the
status
bar. Clicking OK allows AddIns list to be displayed.
-- unchecking any of following add-ins and closing Tools/AddIns
produces
same results.
Conditional Sum Wizard
File Conversion Wizard
Lookup Wizard
Web form Wizard

Other suggestions?
Thanks

Permission to use object denied

Try unchecking all addins and move any files in the xlstart directory to
another location.

or start excel in save mode. Go the the run entry under the start menu (or
whereever it is in XP) and do

Excel.Exe /s

If you don't get the message doing that, then it is probably caused by an
addin or a file being loaded from the xlstart directory (there may be more
than one) or from the alternate startup directory (default is not to have
one specified, but you can look in Tools=Options=General Tab).

If you do get it, then I can't say.

Permission to use object denied

Had a similiar problem in a workbook that contained no macro's whatsoever.
I think I narrowed it down to check or tick boxes mind you these were
worksheet controls not userforms... Removing this controls solved the
problem. Userforms in my current project with macros work fine and that
includes option buttons?!
