Default SHARING MACROS VIA ADD-IN (.xla) FILE

We are using Excel 2002, SP-2 on a network. We have a workbook fil
containing macros saved as an .xla file on a shared drive. Exce
insists on having its .xla files stored in the C:\Documents an
Settings\network ID\Application Data\Microsoft\AddIns folder; however
if the appropriate .xla file is merely saved to that folder, that wil
NOT work. One must select ToolsAdd-InsBrowse and then select th
same .xla file stored elsewhere and then Excel copies it to the abov
folder.

The only concern about the above is when updating the network .xla fil
and having each user go thru the TAB sequence.

But that's only part of the problem: even when the .xla file is save
appropriately, I am having difficulty assigning macros to individua
Custom Buttons I created on the Standard Toolbar. There is a stron
inclination by Excel to put the name of the host workbook (even a blan
Book1) as a prefix to the name of the macro that is supposed to appea
in the linkage window.

Also, now when going thru the TAB sequence and using the share
drive version, I get the error message: ....xla is not a valid add-in
Is it necessary to delete the local version of the .xla file first?

Lastly, on one workstation (mine), I was able to assign macros t
Custom Buttons.
However, I get a message that Excel cannot find the macro. I mus
first go thru the TAB sequence using the local version of the .xl
file (I made this sequence part of the primary macro).

One complicating issue: the workbook that these macros are designe
for is not opened by the user; it is created by another softwar
product that has Excel workbook creation as one of its custom repor
options. This is where the Custom Buttons come into play.

HELP!
