How to distinguish the method Excel was opened?

Excel 2002
Windows XP Pro

I need to distinguish between whether or not Excel is opening because
someone double-clicked an Excel file or if it's opening by a direct launch
of the application. If someone is opening Excel via a direct launch of the
application then I want to add a new workbook, otherwise I don't. How would
I go about this?

TIA.
