File in use open read only

HI all,
This may be the wrong forum but I have a SS w/ a few dozen macros and I'm
thinking this is the cause and I"m hoping you can help or direct me to help.

I made a SS using Win98 and Excel97. I moved it to a notebook w/ Win98 and
Excel2000 (Office) . In the 2000 version I get frequent fatal error doing
different things but most particularly saving the file. It crashes while
saving and becomes a file that can only be opened Read Only. It also leaves
some kind of temp file in the same directory. It's never happened on the
original file computer. When I go to Explorer I can't delete either file.
This of course means I can't overwrite with my backup file, not that I want
to lose my current data all the time but I would be better than constantly
re-booting. I can't really SaveAs another filename because other SS's point
VBA to it. This has become more than an annoyance and I'm trying to set up
for new users so....any and all help and direction is always appreciated..
