Self-Resizing Formulas

I work for a financial services company, and many users use Reuters
and Bloomberg functions. These functions behave in certain ways that
I would like to emulate:

1. Some bloomberg array formulas resize themselves according to how
many records they are returning.
2. Some bloomberg and reuters formulas return data into cells
contiguous to the cells they are entered in. I.e. you enter a formula
into A1, the results are written out to cells A1:B500 [but are actual
values, not formulas or an array formula.

I can't see how to do this. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Thanks, JG

Hi
one idea: They're using a worksheet event. See:

Don't know if this applies, so I'll just throw it out. When you import
external data, say from a web query, there is a "Properties" option. On the
"External Data Range" Properties tab, near the bottom, one can place a check
on...

"Fill Down Formulas in Columns adjacent to data"

As the data gets refreshed (time interval set here also), formulas resize
themselves as you describe.
