does anyone know of a way to have Excel move automatically to the next
cell after entering one digit (without hitting enter every time?)

If there is some sort of script or something that anyone is aware of
that already exists that I would need, can you please point me to it
and tell me how to set it up?

AFAIK this is not possible as you can't run macros while in Edit mode

Excel doesn't know you have entered anything until you touch the enter or an
arrow key or the tab key.

You could use a small userform that only accepts one character.
