L14=total, if P14="text", L14=0
 

Hi,

I need to understand how to manipulate text in formulas.

My problem is that if I have an...

amount biger than zero in (L14) whose formula is =+J14-I14-K14,

and

should I then type in text in P14, L14 will then return a zero, instea
of calculating =+J14-I14-K14 due to text typed in P14.

The manipulation will have to occur in L14 (my totals column for th
day)

eg. L14 calculates total (=+J14-I14-K14), but if I type "any text" i
P14, L14 = 0

Help will be most appreciated

=IF(P14<””,0,J14-I14-K14)

or if you specifically care about text to the EXCLUSION of numeric dat
in P14 then:

=IF(ISTEXT(N13),0,J14-I14-K14)

what is the (N13) ?

also interested in what the <”” mean. I was under the impression tha
text needed a special formula or something

Sorry. That should have been:

=IF(ISTEXT(N14),0,J14-I14-K14)

As for [=IF(P14<””], < means 'not equal to' and "" is an empt
string. So all together it means "if cell P14 is not empty." wha
comes after the first comma is what happens if the "IF" statement i
TRUE and what comes after the second comma is what gets executed if th
statement is FALSE.

SO, If P14 is not empty then this cell's value equals 0, otherwis
subtract the values of cells I14 and K14 from the value of cell J14.
