What is maximum length of URL?

I'm using Excel 2002

I have a statement: workbooks.open(url)
where url is a string of the form "http:\\xxxxxxx"

What is the maximum length of url? It looks like it may be limited to 255
characters

When there are limitations on strings, it is usually 255.
