Sub Main()
Dim fsf As Object
Dim f As Object
Dim sFrom As String
Dim sTo As String

On Error GoTo errhndle

Set fsf = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set f = fsf.CreateTextFile("c:\testfile.txt", True)

sFrom = "\\mypath\file1.txt": sTo = "\\mypath1\folder1"
fsf.copyfile sFrom, sTo
sFrom = "\\mypath\file2.txt": sTo = "\\mypath2\folder2"
fsf.copyfile sFrom, sTo
sFrom = "\\mypath\file3.txt": sTo = "\\mypath3\folder3"
fsf.copyfile sFrom, sTo
sFrom = "\\mypath\file4.txt": sTo = "\\mypath4\folder4"
fsf.copyfile sFrom, sTo
sFrom = "\\mypath\file5.txt": sTo = "\\mypath4\folder5"
fsf.copyfile sFrom, sTo

f.Close

Exit Sub

errhndle:

f.WriteLine "Failure copying from " & sFrom & _
" to " & sTo

Resume Next

I have this piece of code that will move workbooks around to diferent

pc's. That part works great. But I want to create a log that will be a text
file that will append to itself and tell me what pc did not get the file
when the routine runs. I know that it is an errorhndle event I just don't
know how to code it to a log so that it has the detail that I want. Greatly
appreciate any and all help.

TIA

Sub Main()

On Error GoTo errhndle
Dim fsf As Object
Set fsf = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
fsf.copyfile "\\mypath\file1.txt", "\\mypath1\folder1"
fsf.copyfile "\\mypath\file2.txt", "\\mypath2\folder2"
fsf.copyfile "\\mypath\file3.txt", "\\mypath3\folder3"
fsf.copyfile "\\mypath\file4.txt", "\\mypath4\folder4"
fsf.copyfile "\\mypath\file5.txt", "\\mypath4\folder5"

errhndle:

Resume Next
End Sub

Good grief, you guys are so demanding<vbg

Give this a whirl.

Sub Main()
Dim fsf As Object
Dim f As Object
Dim sFrom As String
Dim sTo As String
Const ForReading = 1, ForWriting = 2, ForAppending = 8

Set fsf = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")

On Error Resume Next
Set f = fsf.OpenTextFile("c:\testfile.txt", ForAppending, False)
If f Is Nothing Then
Set f = fsf.CreateTextFile("c:\testfile.txt", True)
If f Is Nothing Then
MsgBox "Fatal error"
Exit Sub
End If
End If

On Error GoTo errhndle
f.writeline "Start of report for " & Format(Now, "yyyy-mm-dd h:mm:ss")

sFrom = "\\mypath\file1.txt": sTo = "\\mypath1\folder1"
fsf.copyfile sFrom, sTo
sFrom = "\\mypath\file2.txt": sTo = "\\mypath2\folder2"
fsf.copyfile sFrom, sTo
sFrom = "\\mypath\file3.txt": sTo = "\\mypath3\folder3"
fsf.copyfile sFrom, sTo
sFrom = "\\mypath\file4.txt": sTo = "\\mypath4\folder4"
fsf.copyfile sFrom, sTo
sFrom = "\\mypath\file5.txt": sTo = "\\mypath4\folder5"
fsf.copyfile sFrom, sTo

f.writeline "End of report for " & Format(Now, "yyyy-mm-dd h:mm:ss")
f.writeline ""
f.Close

Exit Sub

errhndle:

f.writeline "Failure copying from " & sFrom & _
" to " & sTo

Resume Next

errexit:
MsgBox "Fatal error"

End Sub

Bob is there a way to append to the file instead of creating a new one

every time?

Hi Frank,

When my girls were young, one of our favourite books was 'If you give a
mouse a cookie", and it went somewhere along the lines of

If you give a mouse a cookie he will want a glass of milk
If you give him a glass of milk, he will want a mirror to check he hasn't
got a milk moustache
If you give him a mirror .... etc.

Ever get that feeling<G
