Somebody hit me with a bigger hammer... I forgot how to..

A while back, I requested some info and somebody was nice enough to provide
that for me.

What I want to do is to set a filter, and then fill a column, ensuring that
it ONLY fills the records that are showing (visible)!
I have tried this once or twice and it effected all of the records,
including hidden.

I believe the same command will prevent only visible records to be cut and
pasted, but I am not sure, if not, what is the command that will only allow
the visible records to be cut and pasted.

Thanks
Bruce

Hi
after selecting the range try:
- hit F5
- choose 'Special'
- choose 'only visible cells'
- now copy and paste

I think that since xl97, when you copy a range from a filtered range, only the
visible cells are copied.

xl95 was the last version that actually needed that extra
edit|goto|special|visible cells only step.

And when I filter (xl97 or higher), I can use the autofilter button to drag down
the column and it only fills the visible cells.

If you're not sure what excel will do, you can save first. Then close without
saving if it didn't work the way you intended. (Or Edit|Undo???)
