What is in a file name?

Hi all,

Hope someone can help!

Problem:
I am trying to write code in an Excel spreadsheet so that it counts the
number of instances in a particular sub-directory that it finds files that
comply to a specific file name format.

For the sake of argument lets say the file name format is 'DAVID_????.xls'.
I understand that '?' is supposed to denote one alpha-numeric character.

My sub-directory contains the following files:
DAVID_1000.xls
DAVID_1001.xls
Copy of DAVID_1001.xls

My code:
Dim OUTBOUND_FILES As Integer

With Application.FileSearch
.LookIn = CurDir & "\DavidFiles"
.SearchSubFolders = False
.MatchTextExactly = True
.FILENAME = "DAVID_" & "????" & ".xls"
If .Execute(SortBy:=msoSortByFileName, SortOrder:=msoSortOrderAscending,
AlwaysAccurate:=True) 0 Then
Let OUTBOUND_FILES = .FoundFiles.Count
Else
Let OUTBOUND_FILES = 0
End If
End With

The 'count' should equal 2 but I am getting 3.

Can anyone tell me how to identify and 'move' files that do not comply with
the file name format so that the end 'count' for files in the particular
sub-directory will be '2'?

Thank you in advance.
