If i have the macro in a file called personal.xls saved in
the folder described below,excel starts with personal
maximised in the window.Could it be related to our
network /profiles????

I don't know but it migth be caused by the way you created the file.
Did this happen by recording a macro or did you create it manually ?

Anyhow since it it IS maximised and visible : Make it the active workbook
and from the menu select Window / Hide.
It should then be hidden.

Close Excel and aswer the question about Personal.xls ( it is changed ;
should Excell save it ) with Yes.
At reopening it will be loaded but not visible.
