Identify an Word/Excel file without the doc/xls extension

Hi,

How can I know if a file is an Word/Excel file, when the
file does not have the doc/xls extension?

I have a folder with a lot of files and all them without
extension (xls, doc, txt, .). How can I know witch these
files are Word or Excel files?

Thanks,

Rui

do they really not have an extension or is the extension just not visible in
you browser window? In folder options, there is an option to not display
known extensions.

If the really don't have extensions and you know they are all either word or
excel, you could try opening each in Excel and trapping the error. If there
is an error, they are word files. If not, then excel.

In my case, all files do not have the extension.

I have a huge quantity of files in one folder. These files
have the name encrypted because they come from a document
management software.

And I need to separate all Word and Excel files.

Thanks,

Rui
