Excel Workbook Security

Hi! excel programmers,
Fisrt of all i would like to thank you for your help, I
really appreciate it a lot,

Problem :
I have a workbook which i want to give access rights
[read/write] to 'four' people and read-only to
other 'group' of people on the network. N.B I would like
to be able to update the workbook even though there is a
user with a read-only viewing the worksheet. Is this
possible?

Thanks
Mpho

If your users are bright enough to find these newsgroups, they'll be
bright enough to defeat any "security" you put in place. While the
file password protection is adequate (though it too can be broken) ,
internal protection is best suited to preventing inadvertent changes
- see

Bottom line: If your users can access the workbook, they can bypass
any security you put in.

That said, if you and your users have XL03 and you are running
Windows Server 2003, you can assign DRM restrictions, which may suit.
