Some people have been very nice helping me with a couple
of macros. If you're not interested, that's ok, just don't reply. |

James,
You don't have to be rude I assume that you're referring to the thread "Need Macro To Copy and Sort" and the reply that you received from Don. Personally, I found Don's reply rather humorous and not at all rude. Your post was more of a project than a question. We all enjoy helping anyone who asks for help in the ng but we're not here to "build" your project for you. For someone to supply all the code that you need for your project it would take them a considerable amount of time and you'd probably have a hard time deciphering it (meaning you'd have your answer but not have learned anything). Might I suggest that you break your questions into smaller chunks and repost them one at a time? As each question is answered, you'll end up learning how it was done and eventually, you'll not only have a finished project but will have a better understanding of how it works. just my two cents...... Thanks, guys for the support.
It was meant to be funny but I forgot to ask if OP wanted it "SUPERsized" also. Help we give for free. Projects cost a bit more. "James Burke" wrote in message ... Some people have been very nice helping me with a couple of macros. If you're not interested, that's ok, just don't reply. |

It was funny; I guess I just took it the wrong way. In anycase, you're
right, it is a lot to ask. I thought that, maybe, someone who new VB could crank it out pretty quick, because it is a lot of repetious operations. Also, I'm an artist/designer, and would be more than willing to create someone a logo or something. Maybe my question should be this: How can you get the Excel Macro recorder to copy and paste , or select cells dynamically? Example1: if I copy the contents of cell A1 to cell B1, how can I make it copy what is in cell A1 at the time I run the macro, not at the time I recorded it. Example2: If a macro finds something, and I want it to select certain columns in the row that it found in, how can I do that? The recorder won't do that (that I know of). Thanks. It amazes me how some people think they are ENTITLED to help from folk who
post in here. The people who answer questions in here do it in their own time, using their own internet-time and sharing their own knowledge so you should really be thankful to individuals such as Don Guillett. Over the past few years I've noticed this attitude more often, it's one of the reasons I don't bother responding to many posts any more, after all: Why should I give of my own time to help people who can't be bothered to do anything for themselves if they are not going to appreciate it? I have no artistic sense whatsoever, but am in need of a logo. I'll swap you some VB for a logo. A good attitude and, as you can see, it works cuz Bob is responding. He's
supersized. Can I have a logo too? "-JB-" wrote in message ... It was funny; I guess I just took it the wrong way. In anycase, you're right, it is a lot to ask. Bob & Don,
If you're serious in your need for a logo, I would be happy to provide both of you. Send me a private message with your e-mail address, and I will send you a couple of small jpg samples. When I posted, I didn't mean to upset anyone, and I didn't mean to take anyone for granted. I do not feel entitled to help (as Phobos says), I just ask for it because I need it. My only other alternative is to figure out how to hire a programmer, and I didn't think that this was that big to warrant that. Maybe I'm wrong; I'm not a programmer, so I didn't know that this would be such a big job. Jim P.S to Dick Kusleika. Thank you for the help you provided. I got it working. Again, if there's anything I can do for you... ------------------------------------------------ ~~ Message posted from http://www.ExcelTip.com/ ~~ View and post usenet messages directly from http://www.ExcelForum.com/ |

Phobos,
It amazes me how some people think they are ENTITLED to help from folk who post in here. I like to give people the benefit of doubt that they just don't realize that we do this because we enjoy it. I think that some posters are under the impression that we get paid to do this (and therefore are "deserving" of an answer). As for this OP, being fairly new to the ng, I think he just didn't approach it the right way (the benefit of the doubt). A little clarification for the OP (or anyone else that happens upon this thread). When you ask multiple questions in the same post, you limit yourself to people who can answer "all" of the questions in your post. Taken one at a time, you'd get a plethora of responses from many different respondents. It's up to you to get them to all work together (but, yes, we'll help with that too). Over the past few years I've noticed this attitude more often All I can say is give them the benefit of the doubt. Point them to Chip's and Dave's pages for new posters and continue on. it's one of the reasons I don't bother responding to many posts any more The only person that loses with that attitude is yourself (see below). Why should I give of my own time to help people who can't be bothered to do anything for themselves if they are not going to appreciate it? As much as we say that we do this for free, we really don't. Yes, we do get satisfaction out of helping someone we don't even know and it is nice when we do get a "thank you" but I think that we all do it to keep ourselves sharp and to increase (or enhance) our knowledge in Excel. I have learned a lot by asking questions in these ng's but I've learned an awful lot more by trying to respond to other peoples questions. You are always going to run into people like this OP (James), whose only mistake was in the way he posted his question. You'll run into many others (who you'll "know" you've helped) but won't take the time to thank you for your efforts, but by responding, you'll either have learned something new or reinforced something that you already knew and in the long run, you'll be better off for it. I think I'm up to three cents (maybe 4) now, John "Phobos" wrote in message ... It amazes me how some people think they are ENTITLED to help from folk who post in here.
