Is it possible to require that a KEY NUMBER be imputed in a workbook 1 before workbook 2 can be opened?

I am trying to protect my Excel application from being using by others
who obtain an illegal copy. What I am hoping to do is set up a main
workbook. I call this HOME BASE. This has hyperlinks to open the
other workbooks. You would be required to enter your assigned KEY
number into a field in HOME BASE. All the other workbooks would have
that KEY number hidden in a field in the first worksheet. When you
click on a hyperlink open another workbook, that workbook would look
to HOME BASE to see if (1) HOME BASE is open and (2) if the KEY NUMBER
matches with the one entered IN HOMEBASE. I don't know VBA so if
there is a solution for this please write complete instructions on how
to code and where to place it. If you have other suggestions please
let me know. Responses or suggestions to my email:

Sincerely,

Marcello
