How do you lock a cell?

with the sheet unprotected, select the area you want to lock, then do
Format=Cells, select the protection tab and make sure Locked is checked.

Normally the default value is for the cell to be locked.

You now have to protect the worksheet to have the locked property enforced.
(tools= Protect Worksheet).

How do you lock a cell?

I am aware of the procedure you described below. However,
I do not want to protect the whole sheet since users will
be entering data. I only would like to protect certain
cells, and with the method below uses can't enter any
data in the sheet. This is why I posted that I would like
to find a way to ONLY lock certain cells.

Maybe you didn't read the whole answer:

Normally the default value is for the cell to be locked.

Which means you have to explicitly unlock the cells you don't want locked.

select all your cells

unlock them

select the cells you want locked

lock them

Turn protection on.

Protection has to be turned on for a cell to enforce the locked setting.
